Nothing to see here...except a ridiculous strategy outlined at the end of the book.

Super basic book, this is only for beginners who don't know what an option is. If you are just starting out, this could be a decent choice for you because it explains things in a simple and very basic way, but he does explain them saying that for every dollar move in the underlying stock price, you will lose or profit $1 on the option which is simply not true. If you have any knowledge of options then it will be absolutely worthless to you.
However, that being said there is a part toward the end that I don't recommend to anyone, regardless of skill level. The author spends half a chapter talking about how you can have a trade reversed if you call your broker to say it was put on by mistake. Are you kidding me?? He's not talking about it in regards to a genuine mistake. He talks about it like a trading strategy. Make a trade, under 50 contracts though, and then watch it for the day and if it doesn't go your way then try to lie to your broker and tell them it was a mistake and ask that they reverse it. I would never make a trade with the expectation that my broker would reverse it if I didn't like it, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Further, why are you giving beginning traders the idea that options could be profitable within one day? That's just not how they work. For that reason and the oversimplified way of explaining the relationship between a stock price and option price, I can't recommend this book. I want my $3 back.

Not a Dry, Weighty Tome... a Breezy Guide

This options trading manual is like a breath of fresh air in a book market full of dry, boring, humourless treatises chock full of numbers, excerpts that run on for pages and pages, and charts that need a statistician to read and understand them. For all the “For Dummies” series out there, this is one topic that desperately needs one. This book arrives in a timely way to save us from those other textbooks that read like medical journals! Strategies are explained such as buy long calls, sell short puts, straddles, strangles, and everything else.
For the most part, the strategies for options trading are explained in a clear and concise way. Assigned problems and answers could benefit from electronic linking that allows the reader to switch back and forth easily, and it would be nice to see the answers broken down into step-by-step explanations. It was great giving out simple problems, though, just to make sure I understood the topics and strategies.
The author does this for a living, and it is clear that he knows his stuff. That’s what we need, the teacher walks the talk. Thanks for this helpful guide! Now I need an investment banker to sign me up!

A thorough explanation of how to get started trading equity options

This is a good primer to equity options for anyone wanting to learn how to leverage and maximize their plays in the stock market. You can make money in up, down or sideways markets using these techniques. The book gives a good foundation for how stock options work, and then builds on that. Once you have a good grasp on the basics, you can move into the more advanced option plays like straddles and strangles (multi-leg option plays). It can be a bit heavy on math until you plan out the trades a few times - then your brain will start to visualize and process trades almost automatically. One feature I liked about the book was the problems section at the end of each chapter - this is an opportunity to quiz your knowledge and see if you comprehended the past section. So this book could be both a teaching guide as well as a bookshelf reference; after you get a few simple option trades under your belt - come back to the book to add a new layer of wisdom with the advanced strategies.
