From the Author
"Kim Jong-un's diary started as a blog. Initially 'his' diary entries were simple spoofs of the dictator and the insanity his country is known for. Some of these blogs even ended up in what would become 'The Super Secret Diary of a Young Dictator'.
As time progressed I discovered more and more about the hermit kingdom and its strange ruler. The more I learned, the more I found myself intrigued by the person I knew through CNN reports and internet memes. When I pieced together everything I could find on North Korea I noticed a story was unfolding in front of me, something bigger than a blog. All I had to do was connect the dots: Kim Jong-un's rise to power, his first international nuclear crisis, his friendship with Dennis Rodman, the power struggle between him and his closest aides...and all of it happened to a person who was barely two weeks older than I am!It made me wonder: Is there any humanity to be found in someone who tramps on human rights for a living, someone like Kim Jong-un? I believe the answer can be found in 'The Super Secret Diary of a Young Dictator'.
I sincerely hope Kim Jong-un will read it someday."

From the Inside Flap
"The Super Secret Diary of a Young Dictator" is a work of fiction. Yet a shocking amount of the events and facts you'll read are true. This book satirizes totalitarian rule, but with respect to those that suffer from it on a daily basis. Dedicated to Kim Jong-un, this fictional diary serves to show the world freedom is never the enemy. This is true for the 24 million North Korean citizens who've gone without freedom for three generations, but also for those who play an active role in sustaining oppression. In a world without freedom everybody lives in a constant state of fear. Even Kim Jong-un.

From the Back Cover
Funny, shocking and oddly relatable, Kim Jong-un's diary gives evil a human face. It's the story of our struggle to find good in ourselves and the ensuing battle between wisdom and fear that stems from this struggle.Granted absolute power over 24 million people by his father and grandfather, Kim Jong-un quickly becomes addicted to this power. The more he succombs to his addiction, the more he isolates himself from reality. Being God, as it turns out, can be intolerably lonely."The Super Secret Diary of a Young Dictator" is a cry for freedom, coming from someone who fears it the most.

"The harder I started to cry, the harder the people started to cry. They mistook my emotions for an order."
Kim Jong-un, December 2013

~~ The fictional diary of a self-centered man ~~
By Richard and Liz
UPDATE Feb 24th, 2016 - When reading my original review below PLEASE read the comments section also. This author has worked hard in the last few weeks, editing his book and 'chopping' out some of the unnecessary stuff (200+ pages). Unfortunately, due to other commitments, I do not have time to re-read his book at this time but wanted to let readers know of the changes. I believe a shortened, better edited book will make this a much more palatable read. Happy reading, Liz

******************

This is the fictional diary of the world's youngest head of state in North Korea, Kim Jong-un, during the years 2012-2014. Both humor and satire are evident from the very beginning so if you don't have an almost warped sense of humor, don't read this! Although obviously fictional, the author has included some real facts and events that actually did occur.

Suffering from panic attacks Kim's therapist recommends writing a diary. Kim Jong-un's father has now been dead a few weeks and Kim Jong-un is the new Supreme Leader. Life has changed from being the one bossed around to the one doing the bossing. As an example of some humor, it comes out well on January 8th, 2012 as he is looking back at the entire nation in mourning for his father. Kim only then realizes how popular his father had been! "For the first time I realized how much trust my father had wasted."

As an orphan now and fourth choice, Kim Jong-un is guided by his father's third choice, his uncle. How will that affect him? Will that positional guidance change over time? Kim compares the Korean justice system with that of the USA. He says that being loved by "24 million eternally dedicated fans" is "intimidating, suffocating even". Suffering from more chest pains, Kim hopes that a public execution might ease his pain. The crime? Possessing illegal copies of the Hunger Games! Yes, this is the type of content you will be reading.

Throughout the book we read of Kim's thoughts regarding Barack Obama, the USA and the rest of the world. At one point he even has a brown Labrador puppy that he names Barack? How long does he last? Although married with a young daughter, the marriage is not what one would call romantic or loving. (Quite the opposite.) In fact Kim decides to get a mistress to live on his island.

SO why only three stars for this book? It has GREAT potential but at 576 pages is WAY too long. The saga with his mistress begins to get monotonous after a while. He has essentially purchased a sex slave from Bulgaria but no one in the outside world is allowed to know. Kim thinks about having sex with her but never does. He enjoys her company and the fact that she talks to him bluntly as she really has nothing to lose.

Kim is a "spoiled brat" and that's putting it mildly. After a while, "listening" to him gets a little wearing. If the author condensed this book in half, getting ridding of some of the dross and monotony, it would be an excellent read. It truly does have potential. If you enjoy this kind of 'tongue-in-cheek' humor you will likely enjoy this book as is but just be prepared to skip through a few of the pages if you want.

Yes, there are some editing errors and I am glad to read that the author has now found himself an editor as this will help tremendously. HOWEVER it should be said that there are not errors on every page. I have read WAY worse so for the length of the book it is not that bad. How's the language? Yet again, not bad. There is the occasional "F" word and others but not frequent.

SO if you have a sense of humor and want to read about an extremely selfish, self-centered man then this book is for you. Book provided in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Liz

The Lonely Dictator
By Erik Slader
This book is hilarious. As someone who is equally fascinated and horrified by North Korea, this was terrific read. Kim Jong-un is probably one of the most hated people on the planet.. and yet, did he ever have much of a choice? Obviously this book is fiction, but it's a satirical account with a lot of bizarre truths to it. You'll probably still hate the guy after reading, but you might also consider that even the worst people are still human...

If you've got a dark sense of humor and an interest in modern world events, than pick up this book.

Diary of Insanity
By Vampwriter
Fictional, but based upon the actions of a young dictator whose diary is indicative of a mixture of Paranoid-Schizophrenia, Antisocial Personality and Borderline Personality Disorders. While not the average reader's cup of tea, for those of use who believe "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" it's an interesting read. Someone could probably take Adolph Hitler's writings and create an even more encompassing display of pure evil. Kim Jong-un is the third in the linage of "supreme leaders" who have murdered and starved many thousands of those unfortunate to have been born in North Korea. Kim now has nuclear warheads and is clearly crazy enough to give some to the terrorists now running loose..
