This is a very comprehensive book on multivariable control, particularly chapters 6, 7, 8 and 9 wich are very useful to people who want to understand robustness and are interested in studying these topics by themselves. It was of great help to me.

Excellent Book for Graduate Students and researchers

This is a excellent book for graduate student working in Control. It starts of with concepts in control and gradually goes into the details of multivariable control. Presentation on $\mu$ is clear and concise. I really liked the material on decentralzed control and control structure selection. Prof. Siguard Skogestad and Prof. Ian Postlethwaite did a excellent job. However, I wish there were more problems at the end of each chapter focussing on the research issues.

Good content, but terrible quality printing

This is not a review of the content of the book (which is excellent) but the quality of the product.

I purchased the paperbook version, and the print quality was appalling. It looks like it has been printed on the lowest quality setting of a cheap laser printer from a highly-compressed JPEG. The text is gray and has all sorts of artifacts around it that make it very difficult to read. I'm not sure if this is just my copy or the whole batch, I will be trying to get it replaced.

About the Author
Marilynn L. Rapp Buxton currently teaches the 4th–6th grade talented and gifted program at Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools in Waverly and Shell Rock, IA. She also teaches a self-designed curriculum of creative and critical thinking skills in classrooms, is editor of two elementary yearbooks, and coaches Future Problem Solving teams. She received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and has taken numerous graduate courses through Drake University, University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa, Marycrest College, and Viterbo University toward her K–12 gifted endorsement and educational certifications. Buxton received the prestigious Distinguished Service Award at the Iowa Talented and Gifted conference in Fall 2008 for outstanding achievement and service to gifted students in Iowa.

Her curriculum ideas and student projects have been published as a "Teacher Feature" in Iowa Talented and Gifted Magazine. She authored Math Logic Mysteries and More Math Logic Mysteries, published by Prufrock Press. She is currently writing several other activity books for publication. She also authored Itsy Bitsies, four leaflets of counted cross-stitch designs and was featured in Cross Stitcher Magazine.

She has presented at the Iowa Talented and Gifted Conference, Wisconsin Talented and Gifted Conference, Midwest Regional Middle Level Conference, area gifted and talented forums, and local staff in-services. She enjoys spending time with family, swimming, singing in Sweet Adelines International, Harmony Rox a cappella quartet and church choir, doing Sudoku and matrix logic puzzles, going for walks, and playing 500.

These are actually fun to do!

My daughter (6th grade) asks to do these instead of her regular math. I allow it sometimes because it really gets her thinking critically. Whereas her math curriculum teacher her how to do different kinds of math problems (important), the challenges in this book get her really thinking (equally important), so I think it's a great math supplement.

I have her photocopy the page to work on it so she wont be tempted to look at the answer page, and if my husband is home she makes an extra copy and they race each other. She is determined to beat him one of these days. This is one way to get her excited about doing them. I also offer, on some rainy days, to give my kids a dollar for each one they complete. They are excitedly cranking them out, and I'm watching them challenge themselves and get smarter!

Math Bafflers are challenging and are a super collaborative game.

The sixth graders in my general education classroom find Math Bafflers a great way to work collaboratively while practicing their critical thinking skills. Every Friday is Math Bafflers math day, and I use the Table of Contents page to choose the Bafflers to go with the math topic we are studying. Students may work in groups of two or three and solve the puzzles. Emma says, "I enjoy Math Bafflers because they are challenging and when we solve them, it makes me excited." Jawan likes them because it helps him learn about different ways to solve problems, and Capri feels like she has definitely accomplished something when she is finished. Matthew sums it up by stating, "they take real life situations and put them in problems."
I added two Math Baffler pages to the end of the last math unit test. Students who finished the test early had an enjoyable time solving the matrix puzzles quietly working while their peers were finishing the test. I have used both the Math Bafflers for Grades 3-5 and Math Bafflers for Grades 6-8. I am always happiest when my students are enjoying math and growing in their problem solving ability. I highly recommend Math Bafflers for use in the classroom.

Super book for skill development and high school prep...

Having been a student of Marilynn Buxton, I can directly attest to the effectiveness and quality preparation this book provides for middle school learners. I was fortunate enough to have been taught through these very puzzles by Marilynn herself during my middle school years, and found as I progressed through high school that the skills and techniques these types of puzzles develop are cross-curricular, forward thinking, and real world-applicable. Problem solving skills are easily utilized in other areas of study, and I found that these types of puzzles truly do foster that. I am currently preparing to begin my college education in the area of middle school math and history education and have already set aside copies of Marilynn's books to use in my own classroom someday. I would encourage any middle school educator to do the same.

About the Author
Ben Ayers (PhD, University of Texas at Austin, 1996) holds the Earl Davis Chair in Taxation and is the dean of the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. He received a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and an MTA and BS from the University of Alabama. Prior to entering the PhD program at the University of Texas, Ben was a tax manager at KPMG in Tampa, Florida, and a contract manager with Complete Health, Inc., in Birmingham, Alabama.

Ben teaches tax planning and research courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Georgia. He is the recipient of 11 teaching awards at the school, college, and university levels, including the Richard B. Russell Undergraduate Teaching Award, the highest teaching honor for University of Georgia junior faculty members. His
research interests include the effects of taxation on firm structure, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets and the effects of accounting information on security returns. He has published articles in journals such as the Accounting Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of the American Taxation Association, and National Tax Journal. Ben was the 1997 recipient of the American Accounting Association’s Competitive Manuscript Award and the 2003 and 2008 recipient of the American Taxation Association’s Outstanding Manuscript Award.

Brian Spilker (PhD, University of Texas at Austin, 1993) is the Robert Call/Deloitte Professor in the School of Accountancy at Brigham Young University. He teaches taxation in the graduate and undergraduate programs at Brigham Young University. He received both BS (Summa Cum Laude) and MAcc (tax emphasis) degrees from Brigham Young University before working as a tax consultant for Arthur Young & Co. (now Ernst & Young). After his professional work experience, Brian earned his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin. In 1996, he was selected as one of two nationwide recipients of the Price Waterhouse Fellowship in Tax Award. In 1998, he was a winner of the American Taxation Association and Arthur Andersen Teaching Innovation Award for his work in the classroom; he has also been awarded for his use of technology in the classroom at Brigham Young University. Brian researches issues relating to tax information search and professional tax judgment. His research has been published in journals such as The Accounting Review, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of the American Taxation Association, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Journal of Accounting Education, Journal of Corporate Taxation, and Journal of Accountancy.

Great text

The text I purchased came at a very affordable price and it had minimal inside writings. Some items have changed from this year's edition (2014). I advise those whose professors require the 2014 but still allow the use of 2013 to make sure to have acquaintances in class to compare when numbers are assigned from the exercises at the end of the chapters. In fact, take pictures of a friend's exercise numbers because some questions have been switched around. Also, please take into account the tax changes that may have been imposed in 2014, such as personal/dependency exemption amounts for 2014, and percentages for other exemptions or deductions.

Great Textbook!

My course required the newer edition, which had to be a Connect Access Code, for the homework, but this one did just fine for the reading, especially since I sometimes get headaches when looking at a computer screen for too long. It's too heavy to take to class, which is why I'm glad to have the ebook that accompanied my Connect purchase, but this textbook is great for using at home.

Clear, well-organized, & understandable

I'm not a fan of taxation at all, but since I had to learn it, I'm glad I had this book. I would recommend it to any professor thinking of using it. It breaks everything down pretty simply and has a lot of examples and calculations. Everything in it is very well organized.
